Auburn Municipal Civil Service
Meeting –November 1st , 2007 Minutes
Comm. Welch called the meeting to order at 11:00 am. Secretary Bill Fulton took roll call. Present was Comm. Welch, Comm. Camardo and Comm. Brennan. Also present was Michael Hammon, Fire Chief; Asst Fire Chief Corcoran; and Firefighter Brian Donovan.
Motion made by Comm. Camardo to approve the minutes of meeting held on October 4, 2007 and seconded by Comm. Welch. Minutes approved 3-0.
Old Business
Fire Dept.
Motion made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch to reverse the decision to include the six contiguous counties for the upcoming Fire Chief exam. Motion carried 2-1 as Comm. Camardo opposed the motion. The residency for this exam will be Cayuga county only. The experience requirements are a current or retired Assistant Fire Chief; Deputy Fire Chief or Fire Captain.
Motion made to drop the two years as a Fire Captain for the Assistant Fire Chief exam. Motion made by Comm. Welch, seconded by Comm.Brennan and carried 3-0.
Discussion held concerning statements made by City Manager about the cost of candidates while in the fire academy being in excess of $80,000 versus having transfers into the fire department.
Fire Chief Hammon agreed that the figures were inflated by his calculations.
New Business
Review roster and approve eligibility list for Weigh Scale Operator # 64-598.
Motion to approve made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Camardo. Motion carried 3-0.
Motion made by Comm.Welch to go into executive session. Motion seconded by Comm. Brennan.
Motion made by Comm. Brennan to end executive session. Seconded by Comm. Camardo
Motion carried 3-0.
Mary Carli, the NYS consultant from Civil Service is leaving service. She will no longer be the consultant for the City of Auburn. Her replacement will be Frank Belleville.
Exam monitors will be hired for the upcoming Police Officer exam scheduled to be held on November 17, 2007.
Motion made to adjourn the meeting by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch. Meeting adjourned at 12:00pm.
